I failed quite spectacularly last year to meet my goal, but it did get me to actually start my book, and that's a win. This year, I continue! I have a modest goal of adding 15k words to my existing ~17k or so.

I'm sure I'll get around to putting a short story up sometime soon, too. I still have that unfinished one in my stash...

I somehow haven't done anything on here for months, eek! But thankfully I have not been entirely creatively stagnant. My book is now at a semi-respectable 14.7k words, which is a good start. However, I have been writing rather infrequently of late. I continue to forget that the only times I write consistently are the times when I make myself sit down and do it. I think about it more when it's in front of me, and I get results. I don't know why I've been so averse to it lately; as I'm in an interesting part of the story. But then, I don't much understand how to corral my anxiety and get it to let me do things. If I did, I'd be much more productive, hahaha.

Anywho, figured I should provide an update, reassure folks that I'm still around and all that. I need to get back into reading more, come to think of it. I've actually read a couple books since my last update, which shows how long ago it was, given how slowly I read.

The days have been blending together of late, other than the weekends. As a result, it feels like time is passing much faster. While I thought I'd been doing well in terms of writing frequently, it's somehow been weeks since I've put words to the page. I'm going to end that streak of 'zero' days tonight, and try to implement a no-zero day policy (at least when I'm home) from here out, since that seems to be the only thing that will get me to write consistently. Whether it's 20 words or 200 or 2,000; no zeroes.

So the last little bit I've been feeling rather bored while alone and writing the book has been by far the most engaging thing I do in my alone time, so I've been progressing the plotting and the actual manuscript a fair bit, though mostly on the "sorting out issues" side and not as much on the "amount of words written" side. But that's still useful progress and plenty of words have been written, nonetheless. I am actually enjoying the ongoing process of revision as I write, which I didn't think I would, and I think the project is much better for it. I'm going to try to avoid reddit and youtube a bit more, as I seem to have been able to mostly step away from facebook successfully. Hopefully that should expand my free time even more. If I keep a somewhat even pace I should be banging out a chapter every week or so, so I should be able to finish before the year is over. Maybe come November I might be able to start another novel for NaNo?

So, I failed to reach my goal for NaNoWriMo, which was 30k. But I did write about 5k, which isn't nothing. And more importantly, I started seriously working on my book. (I'll not be posting any of it here, unfortunately, as I would like to have it traditionally published at some point.) It's been a really interesting and challenging project thus far and I'm going to continue chipping away at that word count and see if I can finish the thing before the end of next year. I'll probably finish up and post the short story/novelette in my stash at some point in the next while, if I can figure out a way to end it. I'll also be writing some other short stories, probably, while working on the book. The time has gotten away from me of late, but I intend to remedy that once the holidays pass.
